Winter Solstice

A poem I wrote for creative writing club with the prompts of infinity and a time you felt hopeless.

every December,

when the nights

drag on,

eager to arrive and

reluctant to leave,

casting a cold darkness

over the sun

that feels infinite

and unforgiving,

those nights are when

I feel helpless,

hopeless -

light drowned

by the shadows

of cold winter.

every January,

drops of sunshine

caught in sparkling ice

in the evening

herald the coming

of longer daylights
