Happy National Coming Out Day! Here is a short poem I wrote.

You say it like its dirty,

like it leaves a bad taste

that drips down the back of your throat

as you spit it out.

You use it to call something

weird,

stupid,

bizarre;

when something doesn’t match

what You think

is normal.

it hurts.

to me it should be good

but frequent use like yours

blurs the meaning

it is an umbrella

that keeps me dry

in the rain

of confusion.

it is a blanket

that keeps me warm at night

when I lay awake stressed

about my future -

reminding me of

Community.
