My second batch of poems for NaPoWriMo! I'm publishing my poems in pairs to not clog my blog. I really enjoyed both of these prompts.

April 3rd:

“will always be caught

between two friendships:

ours & the friendship

of the cherry trees”

the sun filters through

the pink petals

dappling the branches.

robins flit from tree

to tree, singing

their song of gathering,

the worms wiggling

on the damp ground

know they

will always be caught.

the robins &

the mortal worms

play out their drama,

unobserved, by passersby.

a gentle breeze

sways the branches

of the cherry trees,

showering petals down

& around picnics &

between two friendships

blooming in the spring.

two teens sprawl in the grass,

talking softly to each other,

pointing out funny shapes

in the puffy white clouds.

one girl ambles by herself

noticing the hope of spring

flowers & her appetite for living

in the world that is

ours & the friendship

with her soul

blossoms in her chest,

as she strolls

through pink snow.

the drama of the robins

& the mortal worms

& the new friendships

between strangers and selves

all plays out under the branches

of the cherry trees.

This poem uses the Glosa poetic form, a Spanish form that starts with a four line epigraph from another poem. These four lines then are used in the final lines of the four ten lined stanzas. My epigraph is from the poem Cherry Blossoms by Toi Derricotte.

April 4th:

drink a cup of tea, then brush your teeth;

grab a dictionary and a notebook and burrow into bed;

allow the dictionary fall open to a random page;

read the entire page - all the definitions and sentences;

place the notebook under your head;

fall asleep and dream;

catch your dreams in your notebook;

wake up to thunder and rain against the window;

decipher your dreams by the illumination of lightning;

tuck your poem into bed

The prompt for this entry was to create a poem of poem prompts, inspired by Mathias Svalina. His poems are really good and I recommend you check them out!
